Watch all 10 episodes online at abc.com until 1.4.12 ----------- As far as I know, this is the first fall pilot to leak on the internets. I really liked it cause it's pretty much an old-school soap - but it's also a bit of a hot mess that I can't imagine lasting. Really the show would be better suited for The CW or even ABC Family. Basically, a young woman moves to the Hamptons to exact revenge on the wealthy locals who ruined her father's life. The pilot is the definition of clunky exposition, and some of the acting is guffawingly bad. (You haven't lived until you've seen the creepy midget twink from Gossip Girl attempt a New York accent -- on some of his lines). The show has a very limited premise, and I have a feeling this is a 13 and done. However, it is good old fashioned prime time soap fun, and I'll enjoy it for what it is while it lasts. I love VanCamp and thought she was one of the best parts of Brothers & Sisters. I never viewed Everwood but everyone raves about her on there. But yeah, this show has a big road ahead due to competition and a timeslot that has not been good to ABC for quite a few seasons. But I sure as heck hope it does well.

Trying to stretch out these thin ideas into multi-year series is the worst part of today's American television. In the old days, this would have been a mini-series, like Lace or something. If you're going to remake the Count of Monte Cristo as a soap opera, it would be better to have a definitive end ... it's not a lasting concept. I'll still watch.

I am a fan of the Count of Monte Cristo (the novel) and prime time soaps so this is a match made in heaven. Emily is amazing and I loved the setting and the intrigue. I hope it survives!

I really liked it. It really is like a prime time soap. Lots of over the top acting and pretty people that can't act at all. Emily was great on it, though. I think it is a limited premise too but I hope they show the whole series. I am afraid it could get cancelled pretty quickly or moved around a lot given the competition on Wednesday nights. Perhaps it was a better fit for the CW.

From that point on I was hooked. It's a little silly knowing what happens presumably at the end of this season (or at least the first 13 episodes if it gets there) but I am very interested in what's gonna go on. It has the same feel as Harper's Island to me. Rich people, killings. But are the people who choose the music for this show the same as those that do the music for Ringer? Like seriously what is with all the easy listening soundtracks.

Posts: 1869 09/22/11 01:52 AM Reply Quote More Recent Posts	Wow, holy crap. I did not expec to ADORE this as much as I did. Which means of course, ABC will axe it within a month. This is a terribly difficult timeslot and prime time "soaps" are not really in anymore it seems. But I am totally in for however long this lasts. Just as she has been on almost everything I have seen her in, VanCamp is amazing. This is a good role for her because it mixes good with bad and she gets to show off a different side. The other actors are quite good here as well and I was impressed by how tight the writing actually was. It felt, if you will, "elite-campy" meaning camp but of high value. Oh and if all else fails, the boys are delicious on this. That's more than enough to keep tuning in. This pilot (like RINGER on THE CW) had a whole lot going on that I am sure I missed a few things and there but it's fine. I am hooked. OK, ABC... let us see how many episodes of this you can spare before pulling it. Geez, does anything work on ABC at 10PM on Wednesdays?

However, with the flashbacks to the present, who was the long haired chick that was on the witness stand that put her father in prison? Is that the dark haired beyotch next door in the "today" scenes? Also, why did she end up in a juvie kind of facility? Wouldn't she have been put in foster care or with relatives? The geeky guy, is that the guy who met her at the juvie facility when she was emancipated? Why didn't she want the dude from the restaurant to recognize her? lots of questions. I have to go watch this again.

One is the woman who was currently having an affair with the "head bitch's" husband and the "head bitch" had her exiled from the Hamptons. The second woman is indeed the "head bitch" herself- who Emily/Amanda's father was having an affair with. So, both of those women played a key role in Emily/Amanda's father's undoing and so, Emily/Amanda is seeking revenge on both. She got it on the blonde and now, it is time for "head bitch." 2. No answer yet on the juvie situation or family/relatives. Maybe in future episodes? 3. Yes, Nolan is the geeky guy and he picked her up when she got out. He worked for her father and he brought her that box that her father prepared revealing the truth about everything. He is also the only one who currently knows who she really is. 4. She didn't want hot dude from the restaurant to recognize her because she doesn't want to be found out. They were childhood loves and he still misses her and she realized when she saw the dog (yep, same dog I think, which is odd) that it was him and she can't take the risk of him knowing who she is.

This gets a season long pass from me. I can't wait to see how the season unravels. Though I'm confused as to how Emily/Amanda will continue to exact vengeance when her fiance is dead. Yes, the music needs work, but so far I love the way this show was put together. The only character miscast is the youngest son of the bar/restaurant owner. The actor is too twinkish to play a convincing townie.
