My first episode was flicking back and forth between the second ep of Palau and the Simpsons, though at the time I thought it was further on because there were so many people in the opening credits I didn't recognise - I didn't know they had sent about fifteen people home in the first ep. Actually, the steaming pile of crap that is newer Simpsons episodes is the reason I started watching regularly - they drove me to change channels and never turn back.

Plus, I was suckered into the Everybody Loves Stephenie edit and became really involved in seeing how far she could get. Then, of course, came my first full season - Guatemala - and the gutting revelation that Steph was just being edited nice and was actually a laser-eyed diva bitch. That was the season I got my mum and my sister hooked too and I had to keep on explaining that the player I'd raved on about being so likable before was different now - since then I've shown them Palau so they'll believe I wasn't temporarily insane. I still think Palau's a really great season, despite the obvious shitty winner.

Since Guatemala, in the gaps between seasons I've been catching up on all the ones I've missed, though slowly at first because the first old season I watched was Marquesas and the Vecepia win soured any desire to watch until S11 made me like Survivor again. But my experience watching a lot of the older seasons - Aus, Africa, Amazon, Pearl Islands & All-Stars - has been affected by already knowing the winners. Amazon, especially, was hard to watch, knowing dumb c.unt Jenna wasn't going to get her comeuppance. The only seasons I still haven't watched yet are Borneo & Thailand, because after that I didn't know if it would be worth it watching the villains win again.

So have you gone back and watched Palau since then? Were you shocked and appalled to find out that she wasn't pure evil the first time round?
