I personally liked Thailand a lot. I thought there were some very funny moments and most of the characters were great. I think the reason it's been
remebered as one of the worst seasons is that it was at the time and so people remember it as being bad when it wasn't very far off the other ones.
Normally, you remember certain people from each season and something they did, but there weren't that many big strategic moves through the game except for
the whole Shii Ann switching which didn't work at all because of the fake merge. That's basically the reason she was on All Stars. But all the other
players stuck to there alliances and we knew who was going to get booted off. Also, what do you remember when you think of Thailand? Probably Grindgate, which
wasn't exactly the most comfortable thing to watch. Other seasons are remembered for funny and shocking moments, but in this season these moments were
overshadowed by the uncomfortable moments.

The only decent thing about Borevivor Thailand was Erin's funbags.

What the hell made it so bad? Most people, including myself, hated that the Immunity Challenge was over before the first half of the episode. That really took away from the suspense. That IC was extremely pivotal. EIther Sook Jai was going to even the numbers if they won or be pagonged if they lost. Instead of the suspense carrying over to the second half of the episode, most of the second half of the episode was just the Sook Jai crying over what was a foregone conclusion that they were doomed. From a viewers pespective having the IC completed before the episode was half over was a poor decision. |

I love that episode! It's one of the few episodes that's based on character and tribe dynamics, and not strategy for a change. I always remember that
episode when I think of Thailand, because it's so much different than the rest. It's the only episode all season where Penny and Erin actually come
off as 3-dimensional human beings. I agree with Dr Will one hundred percent.

SenseiKreese wrote: Sensei, you and Dr. Will are in the minority because there was never an episode like that again. Now I like character development and all but you need the suspense to carry on through to the end of the episode or else the average viewer will change the channel. The episode 8 IC was the most critical tribal IC of the entire season. Either Chuay Gahn was going to have the numbers or Sook Jai would even things up. Sook Jai's situation was the same as a team that is one loss away from elimination. Having such a critical IC end so early in the episode made the rest of the episode anti-climactic. When I rewatch a Survivor episode, I'm more interested in watching the character development and story and I often skip over the challenges. For the initial viewing, I'm more into the suspense of the challenges and the game itself. |

I know I'm in the minority. I just wanted to stick up for that episode because I've always loved it. That was the only time all season that I
actually felt like Sook Jai was a family. They actually seemed like real people in a terrible situation. For the rest of the season (thanks to the editing)
they were little more than one-dimensional incompetent Chuay Gahn fodder.

Mario, did you ever ask Helen why she wasn't on All-Stars? Certainly she would've been more entertaining than say, Amber. Plus, All-Stars needed more
older women. They had 3 compared to 6 young women.

both Helen and Teresa) because she wanted on so badly. But, alas, I think CBS wants all their female players to be young. I don't think Helen was really
even considered to be in the cast. But she would have done it if they had asked. Definitely.

I haven't watched through Thailand in a while, and although in comparison to Africa or Marquesas it wasn't great, it's amazing in comparison to the more recent seasons. I thought it was a little disjointed...but other than that, it was good. I liked it and still do. |

Thailand in my opinion ranks sort along the lines as Cook Islands and Fiji in that the winner was the person who never once lost control of the game. Granted
Ozzy and Yau Man were sentimental favorites to win but Yul and Earl, like Brian Heidik, never made a bad move the entire game. Yul's gameplay, while
boring sometimes, was perfect. Earl's was too. Neither of these three let emotion or weakness get in the way of the win. Thus looking back, they were
predictable winners from the early days and the entire season plodded along towards the inevitible outcome. We could possibly lump Tom W. in there but I
don't consider him as having control of his season as much as I credit bad decisions on the parts of everyone else as contributing towards his win. Same
thing with Aras winning. He got lucky that Danielle made fire before Cirie and that Terry fell off the lily pad things before Danielle did.
I enjoyed Thailand but compared to say Australia or Borneo or even Africa, it paled tremendously. |

I'm sorry, I made it to the bottom of the first page and didn't think I could read the rest.
If Thailand was so wonderful and great like some people think, explain the choice of Shii Ann (and only Shii Ann) for All Stars. Not that the other ASS's were all worthy of being there, but camon...ONE person? |

Marquesas definitely had more than 2 entertaining castmembers!) |

I agree too. Erin was actually likable in that episode and up until then, we had no clue who she was. And her exit was the only one I didn't see coming in the entire season and I still consider it one of the most shocking boots to this day. They edited her as the one who kept the 4 of them together and had the strongest bonds with them, they showed her the door. Brilliant. |

100th post!!
For me, Thailand was very predictable. But then, so were several other seasons later on. I agree, Erin's boot was the one I totally didn't see coming. Shii Ann alone made Thailand worthwile to watch. But when she got voted out, it all went downhill from there. |

Do you know another reason why I've always liked this episode? Because it's the closest thing we've ever seen to what being on Survivor is really
like.
Survivor isn't a fast paced game. Hell it isn't even a medium paced one. It's incredibly slooooooow. There is a lot of time between challenges, and the players spend most of the time just sitting around, talking, and bonding. And that's why I've always liked this episode. It's because it's one of the few times that we actually see what the game is like for the players who play. Nearly every episode I ever wrote in my All-Star fan fics was based on the pacing of this episode. Because strategy and challenges are very minor parts of the daily life for most Survivor contestants. |
