I seriously subscribe to the conspiracy theory that, like all the cellphone companies in the country, the major TV stations are actually one big-ass monopoly and celebs transferring from one station to another is just some drama-inducing (or in Derek's case, fantardmeltdown-inducing

) shit.

Ah, just saw the "Good luck" comments (aka, good luck with being laos - what's the english term for that anyway? lol)

It would've been nice to see a female host, but I can't think of anyone already in the business.

And yeah, those people who tweeted about getting on TARP probably threw their chance away. lol

Why Derek moved to TV5

Now it can be told. It was TV5’s offer for him to go to London and host the Philippine primer to this year’s summer Olympics that convinced Derek Ramsay to move from the Kapamilya to the Kapatid network.

“Money is secondary (Derek comes from a well-to-do family). They (TV5) offered Derek a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Great Britain is his second country ( Derek is half-British, half-Filipino),” his manager, Joji Dingcong said.

Besides, according to Joji, Derek felt that at 32, he may not get the said offer again.

Another thing that makes Derek so excited about the job, adds Joji, is the prospect of seeing the Philippines and Great Britain together in one single event.

Of course, Derek also can’t pass up the chance to host the Philippine edition of “The Amazing Race,” which he himself wanted to join. But now, Derek must content himself watching it from the sidelines as a host.

“My good friend Manny V. Pangilinan (TV5 owner) started asking me if I can bring Derek and my stars to the network two years ago,” recalls Joji. “But I said I can help them build up stars instead.” When the Philippine primer for the London Olympics hosting stint came along, Derek had to grab the opportunity.

“I told him nagtrabaho naman siyang maayos sa ABS. His last three movies with Star Cinema (“Corazon,” “Praybeyt Benjamin” and “No Other Woman) earned well, “ Joji revealed.

In fact, he thinks “Corazon” is the biggest indie film in the market since it is now on its third week and has so far earned P52-M during its run in 30 theaters.

As someone who is American but who enjoys hearing kernels of Pinoy culture, I've got a multi-part question. What is the likelihood of any of the following happening? -
a) A 'pre-determined' NEL saves a particularly notable team, especially if it's in an awkward position (ie consecutive NELs, having a second NEL in three legs)
b) thinly veiled (or...not) insults about others' fame or lack thereof? Bonus points if there's an obvious Eric/Danielle type.
c) mugging to be the nonelimination penalty

3) I hope no such shit would happen. Muggers have been pretty bold lately. I read an article about how one robber boldly entered an eatery in Manila and robbed a couple dining there at lunchtime of all times.

But yes, MUCH better than ABS/GMA.

Well I think the Tagalog version of Wonder Pets was wonderful. Ano'ng kailangan? Magtulungan!

Their take on Dora though was dismaying because Dora is bilingual all right, but in English and Tagalog.

For clarification: as a nonelimination penalty, mugging means you lose all of your money and possessions aside from the clothes on your back and passports.

Confirming what everyone's basically known for a year lol, Derek Ramsay is officially the host of The Amazing Race Philippines. But one interesting thing, he mentions how with TARPh, he'll be traveling around his "own country." I hope he's just mistaken or half-right and that TARPh will leave the Philippines even if it's just half the Race.

The relevant piece from the article at PEP:

AMAZING RACE. Three-year exclusive contract ang pinirmahan ni Derek sa TV5.

Gaya ng unang naiulat, ang unang magiging show ni Derek sa TV5 ay ang The Amazing Race Philippines, ang local franchise ng Emmy-winning reality show sa Amerika.

Ni-request niya ba ang Amazing Race?

“Actually, hindi. Ever since that show came out, I’ve been wanting to participate. Sabi ko nga sa TV5, sana contestant na lang ako rather than host. But yeah, I’ll be hosting Amazing Race,” pagkumpirma ng aktor.

Dagdag pa niya, “I cannot believe that they entrusted me to be the host of Amazing Race! One of my passions is travelling. I’m gonna get to go around my own country. We have so many beautiful places in the Philippines. I’ve travelled [to] a lot [of places in the] country but I’m sure marami pang lugar na hindi ko pa napupuntahan. I’m sure sa project na ito, mapupuntahan ko itong mga lugar na ito. I mean, anong klaseng trabaho yun, di ba? Nakakapag-ikot ako. I’m gonna go to paradise and say, ‘You’re team number one, you’re team number two, you’re last…’ That would be the most negative part about this project but I mean to get to travel and see our beautiful country, that’s amazing!”

As has been reported, Derek's first show on TV5 will be The Amazing Race Philippines, the local franchise of the Emmy-winning American reality show.

Did he request The Amazing Race?
