I got to the Aragon about two hours early since I had read that there is only a limited number of seats in the balcony and if I didn't get one of them I planned on standing near the stage. I shouldn't have worried because when I went in to check on my pass from Wally, there was an After Show pass waiting for me which included a VIP seat in the balcony near the stage with free beer! However, since the restroom was two floors down, I decided to pass on the beer. I took a front row seat and waited for the opening act, Kimbra, a New Zealand singer who is on Wally's track "Somebody I used To Know". She was great and sang for about 45 minutes. Wally(Gotye) came on at about 8:45 and lived up to the hype, though, of course, I am totally biased. What shocked me that the floor was absolutely packed with people standing. Later I was to find out that there were about 4800 there, his largest audience yet on the tour. After he sang for a little over an hour I headed to a balcony where about seven of us waited for him to come out and greet us. As soon as he saw me, he came over and gave me a huge hug and we had our picture taken by a tour photographer. I also had someone take a pic of me and him with my camera. He autographed the tour poster I had bought and invited me into the room where the rest of the band was having a few beers and food. I rarely drink, though I did accept a beer. I met Wally's girlfriend who is from Western Australia(I lived there in 1989) and we talked for ages. I had no idea, but another student(Lucas - the bass player) I taught is in Wally's band and when I went up to him he called me Mr. (WesternBulldogs1) which made me feel sooooooo old. We talked and laughed about school almost twenty years ago. Before I left, I wished Wally and Lucas well on the rest of the tour, especially on SNL next week. I left close to midnight to catch the Red Line back downtown to my hotel. Wally really hasn't changed much. He was as friendly last night as he was 16 years ago when I taught him. Last night was one of the best times I've had in my 12 long years back here in the states. Picture of me with Gotye, but no way was I going to reveal myself to you bastards! Now, even better, with me cropped out entirely:
