Before Idol and Apple close up the breach, let’s take a look at the iTunes rankings as of 9:15 on Thursday morning. 25 Piano Man (American Idol Performance) – Colton Dixon 83 Movin’ Out (Anthony’s Song) [American Idol Performance] – Phillip Phillips 215 Vienna (American Idol Peformance) – Elise Testone 266 Everybody Has a Dream (American Idol Performance) – Jessica Sanchez 631 Only the Good Die Young (American Idol Performance) – DeAndre Brackensick Colton is winning the chart race so far. UPDATE: The rankings are gone. Colton reportedly got as high as #20

Things that Colton had going for him were that Piano Man was comparatively a more popular song than most of the other songs chosen that night, he had the pimp spot, and that P. Diddy pretty much told everybody to go buy it. Colton, Phillip, and DeAndre (DeAndre is popular with teens) picked the most popular songs, so it was expected that they would chart even though DeAndre was not well-liked. Elise was more buzzed about this week, which explains how she did better than Jessica.

In season 8 the itunes rankings leaked and it showed Adam far out in front of everyone else and he still come in second not to mention that it's only three weeks into the season and things change over the course of the season.

But it's also painfully obvious that Phillip is going to win, its almost not even worth watching anymore but I'm sticking around to Elise is gone. ITunes is a bad indicator of voting since AI is all about how many rabid fans you have, not just fans in general. ITunes tracks closer to voting for The Voice since you can only cast a limited amount of votes.

As the "best," two picked a guy from the Voice (Jermaine Paul who is Alicia Keys backup singer) and one picked .... wait for it: PeePee (Philip Philips). I too feel its kind of pointless to even watch this season, since they already picked the ringer right there. Boo!

Colton picked the most popular Billy Joel song, sang it well, and did the typical slow-it-down and turn up the emotion thing that Idol viewers love. Of course it's #1. I don't like Skunkhead and even I bought it.
