Hidden Gems, the *g* (or *grin*) in and of itself is not passive-aggressive. It's really just an older version of the "wink" or the “stick out your tongue” smilie. I'm sure that originally it meant, "You know I'm just bustin’, right?", or “You’re nuts, but I love you anyway” at the end of a sentence.

But more often than not – and especially when I was part of the Clay fandom - I've seen it used at the end of a passive-aggressive diss, where it's obvious that the writer really means, "FUCK YOU", i.e.:

Just because some people can't hear the chill-inducing brilliance that is <insert Idol contestant name here>'s voice, doesn't mean it's not there. Some people just have better-tuned ears than others, I guess. *g*

Or

It must be a lot of fun to back an Idol contestant who can move a whopping 200,000 CDs in their debut week, instead of one that can move, oh, I dunno, 650,000. *g*

That is fucking passive-aggressive bullshit and that’s why I hate the fucking *g*. It’s not needed here at Sucks anyway. Sucks is in-your-face, not passive-aggressive.

As far as the fan with the m&g passes, much as I love to rag on the ‘mates, I've gotta side with them on this one. I don't know the story, as I’ve only read these couple of posts here about it - but when I was still in the fandom, there were a number of especially psychotic fans who really went out of their way to get backstage and get inside info from "contacts". They would misrepresent themselves as members of the press, show up at every freakin’ appearance of Clay’s, borrow friends’ disabled children to increase their chances, etc.

Every fandom has those types, and IMO it’s better to be safe than Selena. And when it comes to the real psychos, the Clay fans kind of police their own. These stalker types tend to hit all the boards and they get to be well-known among the different fan groups. When people are just being nasty and spiteful because of in-fighting or battles between fan boards/groups, then it's bullshit. But I've actually seen warring factions get together and share info in the interest of letting Clay's management/security folks know about the real over-the-top stalker types (the ones who seriously think they’re Clay’s sol3mayt OMG!!11).

So yeah, if this chick has already been to a ton of meet & greets, the big red flag flies. And she’s saying she’s only upset because her friend was finally going to get to meet Teh Clesus? Yeah, right.
