We've been told that it's not a main character that dies.
And that it was a very painful death to write. And who does Rowlings LOVE? Hagrid. jenjuliet, diffah all you want. Hermione will be all over Harry. Hermione was mad at Ron for not noticing she was a girl because he's one of her best friends not because she likes him. Plus, who gave Harry a peek on the cheek? It sure wasn't McGonagal! |

I don't think it would be Sirius (can someone tell me how to prononce that, I've been involved in an ongoing argument) simply because he has so much untapped potential.
We have only really seen him through a narrow window. His story arc can be very large and good. |

Charlotte, I want Ron and Hermione to get together, too. I also want Cho to notice Harry as something more than just a friend. Now you guys have me wondering, though, if it might be *gasp* Dumbledore that may die...he is old, ya know. And for the past few books he has sorta been Harry's mentor. I would really cry if they killed Dumbledore, though. He's got such a quirky personality. But his death may also make sense as far as plot goes. And Harry may need to get really pissed off or something in order to unleash the power within. Or something. |

Actually, here's what Rowling has said about Book Five:
1. A teacher dies. 2. Romance blossoms among the students. 3. The Book Five Death (who may or may not also be the teacher death) was especially hard to write, as it was one of Rowling's favorite characters. Rowling has mentioned Hagrid and Sirius as favorite characters in various earlier interviews. 4. Harry and the others are growing up very fast. 5. Arabella Figg of the "Old Gang" is the same Mrs. Figg who babysat for Harry as a child. 6. There will be a female DADA teacher soon. (Not necessarily in Book Five, but soon.) |
