Guys, I have a question, and I hope this post doesn't get lost in the shuffle.
What is it about these books that makes us (and so many others) love them so? I'll be the first to admit that JKR's writing is fairly pedestrian, so what is it? I've heard the HP series called "the LOTR of this generation" but I wouldn't go quite that far. |

jen: Because they're an escapist fantasy, beautifully written, and make us feel like excited little kids.
Anyhow, I think The Death is Hagrid because he's a teacher (fitting the official Book Five teacher death) and one of Rowling's favorites. ETA: And outside of slash, Draco is for no one but Ginny. NO ONE. |

I think it is the simplicity. Books these days rarely have a happy ending. It is partially escapist, but to some degree it is just a comfort. It is pretty obvious that the good will defeat the bad and things will turn out well.

I'm actually hoping for Draco to turn against his father at some point and become a "good guy".

Quote: It's definitely not the LOTR, I mean, it's not so much her writing as the wonderful story she has created, and all of our respective imaginations feed off of that to provide us an escape from everyday life. I mean, that's why I love it, because of those fantastical elements, and because it is good clean fun. That, and the characters she has created all seem real to us, because, despite the setting of the story, they all have human faults. And of course, everyone who loves Harry Potter, I'm sure, loves to root for the underdogs! And Ron, Harry, and Hermione are sort of underdogs, in a way. I'm looking forward to "watching" them grow up together. |

Everyone go to the official site of HP and take the quiz to see what house you're in. I'm in Gryffindor.

Hagrid will not die because that would piss me off.
I would like Snape to die but that's not going to happen. There is some great revelation that will happen in book 7 that Snape must be a part of. They can kill off Neville. He's a sorry son of a witch who is barely keeping up his grades. J.K. probably likes him because she likes the underdog. |

Oh yea, I'm not saying that Ron/Hermione won't hook up.
I'm just saying that in the end Harry will be with Hermione. And in the end, that's all that matters. JTV, Rowlings has said that Draco ain't turning good. I've taken that site quiz so many times. I always get Gryffindor or Slytherin. |

Yes, Snape definitely has a big role to play sometime soon.

Re: The REAL Harry Potter Thread | ||

I mean for the future. In book seven Snape WILL die saving Harry. I'd bet the farm.
Hagrid is the most likely candidate for The Death. Neville is Rowling's favorite student, and I don't see him dying. His parents were two of the most powerful Aurors in the Wizarding World, and I think he has lots of untapped potential he doesn't know how to access yet. |
