Just finished watching Survivor: Guatemala and here's my updated ranking of the first 11 seasons.
1) Amazon 2) Pearl Islands 3) Marquesas 4) Borneo 5) Palau 6) Australian Outback 7) Guatemala 8) Africa 9) Vanuatu 10) Thailand 11) All-Stars Gotta say that Guatemala was a good season & I did enjoy it but it just wasn't as great the Top 6 Seasons on my list ... Also bumped up Africa and bumped down Vanuatu as I realized how painful it was watching Scout, Twila and Chris (hate them all) be in the Final 4... and how Africa was actually much better than Vanuatu. Gonna watch Survivor: Panama - Exile Island next.... Apparently Sucksters have extremely varied opinions on this season (as well as Cook Islands, from what I've read)... So it'll be interesting... Oh and Judd is officially inducted into my Hall of Worst Survivors Ever. Could he be any more of an asshole and a bad loser, MAN?

Well as I'm doing the whole fanfiction video i'm forced to watch all seasons which is usually a good thing but now I'm at the point where I have to
watch Thailand. Just finished Amazon and it's a great season, Rob >>>> it, and loved Heidi. I think Amazon is a really underrated season
compared to most, a great blindside for them was when Alex got voted out, gotta give props to Rob. And as Alex said in tht one episode where they stripped:
"Naked Chicks, cheaaa" " Pizza cheaa" " Roger stupid enough to jump of and not get anything, cheaaaaa" lol funny the way he said it. |

Just got done re-watching Micronesia. Entertaining season for sure, but it just felt a bit empty for some reason by the finale. It's certainly a season of
strategy and not character development. Not to say the latter isn't there, but it's not the focus, however given the theme of the season I guess
that's forgivable. Still, it would have been nice to see the players developed a little more outside of the strategic game. Not enough happened there for
me to really love it by the time it ended. Again, it just felt a little empty in the end because it wasn't focused on character as much as some other
seasons.
Currently re-watching Amazon now. Only three episodes in, but it's a brilliant season. Probably #4 in my overall rankings. More character development in the first three episodes than the entire season of Micronesia (that's what it feels like watching them back to back, at least). By the end of the first episode, you've been introduced to everyone. By the end of the second episode, you've gotten to know almost all of them. By the end of the third episode, not only do you know all their names, but each of them (save Butch, possibly) has some sort of story going. The story and character arcs are brilliantly done, some of the best in the entire series. Plus it's an interesting game from a strategic point of view with lots of people trying to play the game. Give me those blindsides over silly idol blunders any day of the week. |

So I tried to explain it in my post above, but CSC nicely summed it up a few pages back:
It won't hold up on a rewatch, simply because there's virtually no entertainment beyond the blindsides, and when you already know what happens, it won't be entertaining anymore.I agree with that. It concentrated alot on strategy and not enough on character. Fun for the first time, especially post-merge, but then again not many people out there rewatch alot of seasons. Micronesia, like Pearl Islands, has frequent changes of pace.Disagreed, to an extent. Pearl Islands defintiely had the change of pace. A couple people in the season were largely ignored in return for awesome drama and blindsides, and it really paid off. Micronesia did not have quite the change of pace. In fact, one can argue it pretty much settled in after the first four episodes. The back and forth between fans and favorites losing and winning was great, and I always love it when tribes alternate going to TC. It keeps the show interesting. Then, it was Malakal at TC four times in a row. The Joel boot was great, but the next two kind of slowed down, and the episodes would have been worse if Jonathan and Kathy didn't leave like that. Ami's boot was a good episode upon rewatch. I liked it alot more the second time around. Why? Because they actually really developed Ami and Erik's characters. The drama was there, the struggle to stay in the game was there. I loved it. Sure, it revolved around strategy, but it wasn't about people playing or not playing idols. All that stuff was cast aside, and in exchange was real human emotion, and it really worked. Once the merge hit, the pace was never changed. It pretty much stayed on course with the women removing the men one at a time. The Alexis blindside was there, but alot of that episode was still all about trying to get rid of Erik. The merge was one episode after another of "how will the girls outsmart the guys this week?" Fun, but no changes of pace at all. Who else was hoping for Amanda to get James, Erik, and Jason in an alliance at final 8 to take down one of the other girls? Now THAT would have been a great change of pace. |
